Microdermabrasion is a rejuvenating skin treatment that utilises fine ground crystals to reduce fine lines, superficial blemishes and generally improve the skins appearance, texture by exfoliating and resurfacing safely by expertly trained and qualified therapists. I offer Diamond Microdermabrasion.
This is a more new concept. It is a crystal free option and instead of the sand blasting approach it uses a “wand” that has a diamond tip. This wand is passed over the skin and exfoliates like the crystal version a bit like using a hard grit file. The exfoliated particles off the face are then vacuumed up through the same wand. This version is a bit cleaner than the crystal version, no gritty bits of residue left on the face, no fine grains to accidently get into the eyes, up the nose or mouth. Using a diamond tip means you can abrade areas near the eyes with less risk as there isn’t crystals firing out of the wand.
When you book a diamond microdermabrasion facial with me you will receive a full double cleanse with luxurious products made for sensitive skin, then we will microderm your face, I will then apply a cooling gel mask, tone and then add a facial oil/serum and finish with a moisturiser, again all tailored for sensitive skin.
The full facial is just £55. Contact me for details on a course of facials at a reduced price.
What does microdermabrasion treat and what are the benefits?
Microdermabrasion is a safe skin treatment that appeals to people of all ages. Since our skin is the largest organ in the body it is fair to say it is going to have a lot of wear and tear, abuse, damage and it will show through in dull skin, acne prone skin, mature and ageing effects, uneven skin tone, stretch marks and so on. So, microdermabrasion really does help most people in some way.
Fine Line and Wrinkles (& causes)
As we get older our body changes massively, we can feel this as a gradual process with generalised aches and pains, our immune systems aren’t as strong and we become less mobile. Our faces too change and for some people that overnight shock where one morning you wake up and don’t recognise the person looking back at you in the mirror is just too much to cope with. So the quest for renewed youth has never been more evident. The demand for anti ageing products is at its highest and those seeking cosmetic procedures is on the increase. Microdermabrasion is simple. It is quick. Non Invasive. Requires no downtime for recovery. It stimulates the bodys ability to produce collagen. It safely removes the old skin cells therefore making the face or body area look fresh and revitalised.
Ageing Skin (& causes)
As we get older our skin changes and can leave a dramatic and altered look on our faces. Our skin becomes thinner and more translucent, we develop large pigmented spots especially on sun damaged or weather exposed skin. We also develop redness and uneven skin tone (blemishes). We have physical changes in the skins connective tissue making it weaker and with the reduced collagen content our skin loses its ability to stretch and bounce back into shape. Our face will begin to hang more loosely with the reduced elastin content too, plus also the natural loss of fat will reduce the fullness of our face exposing more wrinkles and lose skin. Our skin will also bruise more easily since our blood vessel walls are weaker. Stress can impact on our face too. Stress causes our stress hormone cortisol to rise, this in turn flushes our blood supply to our internal organs and leaves out our face, making us look washed out, tired and sallow.
Stretch Marks (& causes)
Stretch marks are small long strips of skin which have become distended due to weight gain and or weight loss or even just natural growth. Often over a short period of time. They can develop on both males and females too. Stretch marks can be red/purple in colour and then fade to a white/silver appearance. To many, stretch marks can look unsightly, reduce confidence and prevent people from wearing clothing that they enjoy if it reveals their stretch mark areas. Microdermabrasion can improve the elasticity of the skin, reduce the appearance of stretch marks especially in the new red/purple stretch marks where plenty of blood supply is present.
Acne (& causes)
Microdermabrasion is a choice for those suffering from acne, or for those who would like help with post acne scarring. The treatment will stimulate blood and oxygen circulation and aid the bodys natural healing ability and collagen release. Acne can have a multitude of causes. Often in adolescents it is caused by blockages in the sebaceous glands. These glands are responsible for producing our oily substance called sebum. Acne can be also triggered by hormonal changes, changes in diet, pregnancy , weather and environmental issues and also topical use ie, creams and lotions and potions we use on our skin daily. Microdermabrasion can help unclog the blocked pores and help clear acne.
Dull & Tired Skin (& causes)
Our skin responds to environmental issues and with the skin. Our air is polluted and the polluted air contains millions of tiny particles of dirt and sulphur dioxide. These create free radicals on the skin and these in turn damage collagen and therefore produce new wrinkles. The Epidermis is our top layer of skin and it forms a physical protective structure. With age Epidermal cells don’t slough off as easily. Skin doesn’t retain as much moisture. Leaving it dry and dull looking, with possibly larger pores, breakouts and redness (uneven skin tone). Microdermabrasion can safely and in a controlled manner exfoliate off the dry cells leaving the face looking and feeling instantly renewed. If your skin feels and looks congested with large blocked pores then microdermabrasion will brilliantly restore your shine. We also need to educate our client base on the importance of water and a good skin care routine. Lack of moisture and water can dehydrate and dry out our skin making it look dull. With age or even with each day if we were to be brutally honest our hormones levels fluctuate! They change due to puberty, medication, pregnancy, menopause and change the appearance of the skin. When we have a dip in oestrogen this leaves a higher level of testosterone resulting in oilier and greasier skin, this creates that “t-zone shine”. Hormonal hyperpigmentation can also leave us with dark patches that tend not to fade too.
Pigmentation (& causes)
Pigmentation is very common and can cause the skin to become darker or lighter. Lighter is hypo pigmentation. Darker is hyper pigmentation. Melanin within our skin regulates the colour of our skin, hair and eyes. Hyper pigmentation is usually the over production of melanin. This can be triggered by tanning. Hypo pigmentation is the under production of melanin. This can result in different skin issues like vitiligo or albinism. In general skin pigmentation can be caused by medication, contraceptive medication, long term use of some soaps, cosmetics or hair dyes. With progressive treatments (as opposed to one deep aggressive treatment) microdermabrasion works to get deeper into the layers of the skin to lift pigmentation.
